Democracy Now! covers Green Politics

In this Democracy Now! segment Amy Goodman talks to Green Party candidates Howie Hawkins (US Senate, NY) and Michael Berg (US Congress DE) about access to the debates. It seems Berg took the lead of our own Doug Campbell and attempted to crash a debate, only to be escorted out of the event. I hope no ribs were broken this time. She also talks with Aaron Dixon (US Senate WA), who was arrested when he tried to participate in a debate. He goes on to say he was offered bribes to withdraw from the race. I wonder if that's what went on in Connecticut.

The Michigan Citizen endorses Green David Sole for US Senate

The Michigan Citizen, self-described as America's Most Progressive Community Newspaper, is widely read in the African American community. In this weeks issue, they endorse Green Party Candidate David Sole for US Senate.

There is a neon sign in front, and it looks like nothing else along Woodward.

It is a cross-roads center
with a vegetarian restaurant, and
lots of activities going on all the time:
drum circle twice weekly: Wed. and Sat. nights
open mic night: Thursday.

A probable issue list was compiled including the following:
* The quagmire that is Iraq and the upcoming horror that is Iran and the impact of US military actions on local public budgets and living standards
* The jobs crisis in our state and localities, the pensions crisis, what happened to the social safety net and how to regain it.
* The health care crisis and how the Michigan Constitution and public law mandate a solution to make affordable health care available to all segments of the population
* Electoral reforms that are necessary and that should already have been put into effect by the SOS
* The energy crisis and how Michigan could become a leader in renewable energy
* How public transportation could be re-established.
* How civil rights law could be amended to guarantee such rights to the LGBT community

But, of course, you can talk about whatever issues you feel best sustain your campaign

Green Candidate Looks Forward to Facing Four Rivals

Douglas Campbell, two-time candidate for governor of the Green Party of Michigan (GPMI), has accepted the schedule of three televised debates in the governor’s race: a no-rules open discussion among the candidates Monday, October 2 at WKAR in Lansing; a more formal debate at WOOD-TV 8 in Grand Rapids on Tuesday, October 10; and a town-hall forum Monday, October 16 at WDIV-TV in Southfield.

Detroit, MI

Leilani Dowell, a member of the fact-finding delegation to Lebanon, will be a featured speaker at an upcoming Teach-In at Wayne State University in Detroit. Dowell, a nationally known youth activist, witnessed first hand the results of the US-financed Israeli aggression against Lebanon during the recent 34-day war that was sanctioned by the United States Congress. Despite the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in August , the Israeli regime has continued to violate the terms of the agreement as well as escalating attacks against the Palestinian people. Meanwhile, the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue to further destabilize these nations with the Bush administration growing more desperate in their attempts to occupy the peoples of the Muslim world.

On September 30, the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice will host a Teach-In at Wayne State University's Kresge Auditorium that features a variety of activists and experts on the historical conflict in the Middle-East and its implications for the region, North America and the global community. The keynote speaker will be Joyce Chediac, a Lebanese-American journalist based in New York, who is a contributor to Workers World newspaper. Other speakers will include: Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire and a co-founder of MECAWI; Hasan Newash, co-founder of the Palestine Office of Michigan; Atty. Jerome Goldberg of MECAWI; Andrea Hackett of MECAWI, whose daughter served two terms in Iraq with the National Guard; Sandra Hines, an organizer for the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality; David Sole, U.S. Senate candidate on the "Stop the War Slate" for the Green Party; Kevin Carey, "Stop the War Slate" candidate for State Board of Education and others.
