Haditha Massacre

As the reports of the massacre of unarmed Iraqi civilians, including women and children, are investigated, it's hard not to compare this incident to the larger war. Just as the Marines involved appear to be driven by the death of one of their comrades, we appear to have been driven to war by the deaths of those on 9/11. The Marines in Haditha will face justice but will those who drove us into this unjustifiable war ever pay for their crimes?

Change in leadership in store for Green Party of Canada

Jim Harris, who has led the Canadian Green Party for the last three years is stepping down, and one of Canada's leading environmentalists, Elizabeth May will be running for the office. The description of the state of Canadian Greens is eerily similar to our situation here in the US and suggests a strategy we might adopt, a return to our environmental roots.

Thirst - The Movie, tonight in Southfield

Please attend this showing of Thirst, the documentary about water privatization. Also being shown is the trailer for a new water film, Water Warriors. This film documents the water struggle in Highland Park.

Labor Notes Conference opens today

The Labor Notes Conference: Building Solidarity From Below opens today in Dearborn at the Hyatt Regency near Fairlane Mall.

One highlight of the event is the Water Workers Fighting Privatization Meeting at 10:45 am Sunday May 7, in the Thomas room. Come meet with Wilfredo Romero, President of the water workers union in El Salvador, Detroit water workers, community activists, and film makers to compare our struggles and build coalitions to protect jobs and stop privatization of our water!

The Greens will be hosting a table at the conference. Stop by and say hello!

Over one million immigrants and supporters protest across US

In cities across the country, More than one million immigrants stayed away from work and school and marched in the streets. Responding to proposed legislation that would make many of them felons, the May Day action was called the "Day without immigrants" by its organizers.
