MLK Detroit Freedom March Monday

Advocates of Social Justice,

Martin Luther King Day (Monday January 15) is almost here and we have great day in store for you! This year’s fourth annual event at Central United Methodist Church will be sure to inspire, inform and entertain you. We have a great line-up of speakers including renowned author and peace activist Marianne Williamson delivering the keynote address, U.S. Congressman John Conyers, Detroit City Councilwoman Joanne Watson and co-chair of the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization- Maureen Taylor. Detroit's beloved champion of social justice Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, founding president of Pax Christi USA whose travels on behalf of peace and justice have taken him to Central America, the Middle East and Asia, is to receive the MLK Spirit of Detroit award. Musical guests will include Detroit’s own Mosaic Youth Choir. The Freedom March will include a marching band, colossal puppets from the Matrix Theater and plenty of warm refreshments. Students from Detroit’s public, private and charter schools will offer up their views in the cultural arts exhibition, and a few surprises will be thrown in the mix as well. We hope you will join us as we start promptly at 12:00 noon.

In the spirit of Dr. King's call to service, we are asking everyone to bring some winter-wear clothing to donate to the N.O.A.H. program for the homeless.

If you would like to pitch-in as a volunteer, please come at 10:00 for an assignment.

Free parking will be available in front of Comerica Park (west side).

For more info and to print out the official flyer, please go to MLK Detroit

Hey Lou and all other Green Bloggers, I am trying to promote a Blog Swarm of Green bloggers and friends to connect their blogs, mailing lists, websites etc to a page at gp.org. That page allows our readers to donate to the national party and have the donation matched one for two. A fifty dollar gift (the minimum) gets the national party $75. If you or others want to help spread the blogswarm, please write me at GreggJocoy29715@yahoo.com or visit my blog at www.gregg-jocoy.blogspot.com

Or you can click here to participate by donating now!
