Bush's veto of stem cell research risky - Yahoo! News

As this article mentions, most Americans support federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. Then why does George Bush kowtow to a small minority of radical Christian fundamentalists on this issue?

Ask President Bush and Congressional rep's to rein in this current Israeli barbaric assault on Lebanon and Palestine. Stop US support to the continued ethnic cleansing and the apartheid-like collective punishment against Palestinians. Stop the assault by the 4th strongest army in the world against a mostly defenseless civilian population both in Lebanon and Palestine. We, American citizens, are paying the bill. How long will our complicity of silence continue, as these crimes are committed in our names, i.e. with our government's support? Call or fax the White House and Congress expressing your concerns. 202 456-1111; Fax 202 456-2461

Again, give your polite and succinct message and messages expressing your concerns. 202 456-1111; Fax 202 456-2461. Congressional Numbers are below.

Call White House & Your Congressman TODAY!

They say "We don't hear you complain, you must like what we are doing."

Let them all hear it loud and clear: President Bush's statement: "Israel has the right to defend itself" is the green light to wipe out entire families in Palestine and Lebanon. Mr. President, this is an outrage. These are war crimes Israel is committing against people in Palestine and Lebanon with our US government's complete support Tell the president and our rep's NOT IN MY NAME! Stop the killing; STOP ISRAEL'S WAR CRIMES!

I wonder what political party she's thinking of?!?

In this article on UAW convention responses to Ford's plan for Mexico, we read: "Wendy Thompson, the former president of UAW Local 235 in Hamtramck, cited Ford's plans to expand in Mexico as a reason to encourage more grassroots political activity among members. She said members needed to support more than just the Democratic Party."

Wendy has attended a few of the recent Detroit Green local meetings at Day House.

Water for Life, Part II Today

"WATER FOR LIFE - THE DETROIT SERIES
This series will explore water issues from a perspective of social justice and human rights. How will pollution and privatization of water further exacerbate social inequities and divisions, particularly in Detroit? We all depend on access to clean and safe water, both for recreation and survival. In a world where water is increasingly a commodity, to be bottled and sold, how do we protect and preserve water as a natural resource? How do we ensure that access to water is a human right for all, regardless of where you live or your ability to pay?"

Part II: June 13, 2006

Water rip offs!

Privatization is already costing the citizens of Detroit more money. This article in the Michigan Citizen details the increased costs of Water Department contracts with private companies. With little oversight by the council, Victor Mercado's Detroit Water and Sewerage Department spent over 12 times their budget. No wonder they want to ding Detroit customers for a 33% increase in sewerage rates.

An Inconvenient Truth

Last night Priscilla saw the fact-filled film on global warming, 'An Inconvenient Truth'. While it may seem hard to sit through a Keynote (MacOS version of PowerPoint) presentation by Al Gore on this subject, she highly recommends seeing it. It will open at the Royal Oak Main next Friday. Who wants to go?

Here's an interview with Al Gore from NPR.

Haditha Massacre

As the reports of the massacre of unarmed Iraqi civilians, including women and children, are investigated, it's hard not to compare this incident to the larger war. Just as the Marines involved appear to be driven by the death of one of their comrades, we appear to have been driven to war by the deaths of those on 9/11. The Marines in Haditha will face justice but will those who drove us into this unjustifiable war ever pay for their crimes?

Change in leadership in store for Green Party of Canada

Jim Harris, who has led the Canadian Green Party for the last three years is stepping down, and one of Canada's leading environmentalists, Elizabeth May will be running for the office. The description of the state of Canadian Greens is eerily similar to our situation here in the US and suggests a strategy we might adopt, a return to our environmental roots.

It's a slow news day today,,,

... and Kinky Friedman submitting petitions to run for governor of Texas is a highlight.

In other, less fascinating news, I'd gladly sell my phone records
for a piece of that 70 Billion dollars.

Would you?
